Batch templates

A batch template makes one document out of several cases, with one row for each case. Use it for lists and summaries, like a payment run or a register of everything due this week.

Most templates make one document per case. A batch template makes one document for many: you tick the cases, and each one fills a row of the same table.

Fig. 01A batch run turns the ticked cases into one document with a row for each, saved on every case.

Make a batch template

A template becomes a batch template when it has a Batch field.

  1. On a document page, open More field types at the end of the Add field group and choose Batch.
  2. Under Schema fields, click Add schema field once per column and name it. Point each column at a case value, or give it a fixed value.
  3. Under Placements, click Add row until Rows matches the most cases one document will hold.
  4. Drag the first row's boxes into place. The other rows follow below it.
Fig. 02A batch field is a table: its columns, how many rows, and the order the rows take.

A row prints values the case already holds: a batch run asks nothing and reads no file. Leave Row order (optional) empty to keep the order you ticked in.

Run it

Fig. 03A batch runs from the dashboard, not from the template's run screen.

The finished document is saved on every case you ticked, tagged with the template's Output category.
